## Testnet vs mainnet

The Free plan runs on the testnet, a public practice network. A file anchored there gets a real, verifiable timestamp and, while it exists, it can be used as evidence. It is the fastest way to see exactly how immut works, end to end, at no cost. But testnet records can be wiped at any time, without notice. For compliance evidence that has to hold up later, use a paid plan on mainnet: permanent and deletion-proof.

## Add-ons

- Extra uploads (monthly recurring, consumed after your included allowance): +10 uploads / month for £25 ($32), £2.50 ($3.18) per upload; +50 for £75 ($95), £1.50 ($1.90) per upload; +100 for £100 ($127), £1.00 ($1.27) per upload.
- Extra seats (Professional only): £59 ($75) per seat / month. Each extra seat adds one user and +30 uploads / month to the workspace.
- Personal server (Professional and above): £149 ($189) / month. Only the cryptographic hash of each document is sent to immut for blockchain timestamping; the original file is not stored by immut. Ideal for universities and firms with strict data residency or compliance requirements.

## FAQ

### What is an upload?
An upload is a single document added to immut that is then logged on the blockchain. This can be done manually via the web interface or via API. Note that adding a new version also is classed as an upload.

### Do unused uploads roll over?
No. Both included uploads and add-on uploads reset each billing cycle. Neither rolls over. Add-on uploads are consumed after your included allowance is used up each month.

### Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan?
Yes. You can upgrade at any time and your billing is prorated. Downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle.

### What's the difference between testnet and mainnet?
The free trial runs on testnet, which is suitable for evaluation only. Testnet data can be cleared at any time. Paid plans use mainnet, where every timestamp is permanently recorded and legally defensible.
